Communicating with Pixel Buds is done with both your voice and your fingers. The second includes a series of touch controls that move gently. Aside from the obvious - tap to play and pause music, tap twice to skip forward, triple tap to skip back - there are also Assistant-specific commands. If pressed for a long time, Assistant starts, double-tap turns it off. It takes some getting used to, but it's intuitive enough.

All smart Assistant work is done on your phone and on Google's servers, but making this a good experience over Bluetooth is pretty good. The microphone quality on the device is good enough for both communicating with the Assistant and making calls. The Bluetooth signal is also mostly reliable. The problem is, you can't see a screen, as with any audio interface, you can get confused, especially if you're trying to issue more complex commands while walking down a busy street.

So, should I buy it?

Ask yourself this: Do you already use Google for almost every aspect of your life? If your answer is yes, and you are already looking for wireless headphones in the $ 150-190 price range, consider purchasing Pixel Buds. You won't find better integration with Android anywhere else, but you can find better battery life and sound quality for high bucks. If you're thinking of transferring more data to Google and it's okay for the company to keep track of your every move, get it right away.
